My Healing Journey from Trauma and Autoimmune…

At 36 years old working as a Landscape Architect in one of the largest multi-disciplinary firms in London, UK, I felt like I had hit the end of myself. I was in a toxic and abusive relationship, my Dad had died in a boating accident and I had never fully healed from childhood trauma, a previous infectious disease, and a destructive marriage.

I was overwhelmed, full of anxiety and fear but so burnt out! I remember not being able to stop crying and not knowing what to do. This was my turning point!

Even with my attempts to stay healthy, my life and health had become more and more unsustainable as I became more ill, depressed and stressed. My body started to send me more signals like thyroid issues, rashes, indigestion, brain fog, getting sick all the time, chronic pain, fatigue, psoriasis, IBS and other symptoms.

Desperate to feel better and keep up with life my search began, I visited countless doctors, different countries, researching and exploring alternative therapies. I probably spent a good couple of years and £20,000 on my health.

The good news is that is paid off, at 44 years old now, I can now say I have found true sustainable health. Have I radically changed my life? Yes! Everything was completely flipped upside down however, it was the best thing to ever happen to me.

And through my journey, I became a qualified Integrative Nutritional Health and Wellness Coach and an EFT and Matrix Practitioner. I now specialize in helping woman heal their immune systems and nervous systems with Mind-Body coaching and therapy.

01 - Activate Your Inner Healer

Your NERVOUS SYSTEM guides almost everything you do, think, say or feel. It controls complicated processes like movement, thought and memory. It also plays an essential role in the things your body does without thinking, such as breathing, blushing and blinking.

The nervous system is your INNER HEALER! Therefore if you are operating in a state of chronic stress, overwhelm, overthinking, anxiety, and unhealed trauma your nervous system will be in a state of fight/flight/freeze or fawn… and you will not be able to heal!

Food is Medicine!

There is no one right way to eat, sleep, exercise, work, and ultimately, live. This is because we are all unique! For example: 

  • Age

  • Psychology

  • Genetics

  • Micro biome 

  • Circadian rhythms

  • Metabolic type

  • Glucose responses 

These all contribute to you being you! And there is only one you!

03 - The Body Keeps the Score

Not only is the brain affected by chronic stress, anxiety and traumatic experiences but the body is significantly involved and affected also. This occurs because the brain and major organs of the body engage in two way
“speak” and respond to each other.

The Vagus nerve functions like a two-way street, transporting signals and messages from the brain downward, but also from the body upward into the brain.

All of this alters our NERVOUS SYSTEM and the way that is functions, this information is then stored in the body as a protectionary measure. To emotionally heal you must treat the body.

04 — The Body is Designed to Heal!

Given half the chance the body will heal itself!

A funny rash, stomach aches, feeling tired, brain fog, and achy joints;  we regularly accept these conditions and normalise them, yet it is our body nudging us to do things differently before long term illness sets in.

This can be turned around if we tune in and start to listen to what our body needs.

05 — Primary Foods

are Key

Primary foods nourish us and bring us to life, however they don’t come on your plate. Some of these essentials foods are:

-loving, nurturing, open and honest relationships

-inspiring and meaningful work

-having a spiritual practice that brings you peace and joy

-moving your body in way in way that you enjoy

-engaging in creative activities

-learning and growing as an individual

Drinking kale smoothies is not going to heal your body, if you have not addressed your essential needs first. 

In order for humans to really be healthy we need to be in love with life. Feel connected. Balancing primary foods can be a huge challenge as it sometimes requires us to completely re-evaluate our life.  

It can, however, be some of the most rewarding work you do. It will take you from a life where you feel like you are just surviving to one that is thriving.

By achieving  a greater level of personal well-being we also build a world of wellness and a more sustainable future.

For example: Want a healthier gut? Eat more local food that is grown in organic soil - microbes love this environment and attach to our foods that in turn helps to feed our gut with beneficial bacteria. 

Want to stop food cravings? Great! In the process of becoming more mindful consumers we then purchase products that are not only grown sustainably, but truly feed us.

Therefore, with more vibrant health and mental clarity we make better choices for ourselves and the people around us; and with that greater sense of connection we support our communities and planetary health. The world needs us to be our healthiest selves!
